POSITION INFORMATION:Under the direction of the Chief of Police, performs advanced professional work involving crime analysis, statistical reporting, strategic research, and coordination of community engagement initiatives. Responsible for the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of crime and operational data to support command staff decision making, resource allocation, and public transparency. Coordinates public information functions including Crime Stoppers, community events, social media, press releases, and public crime reporting initiatives. Work requires independent judgment, analytical expertise, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple high priority assignments involving sensitive and confidential information. QUALIFICATIONSTraining and Experience Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university preferred; or Associate's degree or equivalent plus two (2) years of related and progressively responsible expeirnece; or high school diploma or GED equivalent plus four (4) years related and progressively responsible experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Advanced skill in data analysis, spreadsheet development, and report preparation. Skill in GIS mapping software and data visualization tools preferred. Exceptional skill in written and verbal communication, including preparation of executive summaries and public communicaitons. Ability to interpret complex data sets and translate findings into actionable recommendations. Ability to present technical information to diverse audiences including command staff, elected officials, media, and community groups. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet statutory deadlines. Exceptional skill working with the public, employees, and in maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, officials, agencies, vendors and the public; expert skill in organizing, completing and reporting on assigned projects; multitasking; composing clear, concise and informative correspondence; proofreading; and advanced skill in using Records Management Systems, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point software; and performing data entry with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of the materials and situations encountered on the job; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; respond effectively to inquiries and complaints; solve complex problems involving several variables within a familiar context; calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages; understand and carry out established policies and procedures; interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture or schedule form; and perform budgeting and bookkeeping duties.
