The Association for Asian Studies (AAS) is searching for an Editor for its peer-reviewed, open-access online teaching journal, Education About Asia (EAA). The main responsibility of the Editor is to produce two issues of EAA every calendar year. This is a service and leadership position that is well suited for an individual who holds an academic, administrative, or other professional appointment and wishes to contribute to the field of Asian Studies through editorial stewardship and public-facing scholarship. The Editor will receive a modest annual stipend. Education About Asia (est. 1996) is the leading English-language journal dedicated to pedagogy in Asian studies. EAA draws on the expertise of teachers and scholars in Asian studies to offer pedagogical resources and insights on historical and contemporary Asia to precollegiate and college teachers, covering all disciplines and geographic areas. Featuring accessible peer-reviewed articles and multimedia content, EAA provides teachers with background knowledge and up-to-date analyses they need to help their students understand Asia. Highly regarded as a go-to source for practical resources for secondary and post-secondary classrooms, the EAA is also a key outreach platform for the AAS, the worlds leading scholarly organization for the study of Asia. EAA online archives include over 2,000 articles that receive close to 900,000 annual pageviews, representing close to 60% of all traffic to the AAS website. Formerly a print and online journal published three times per year, EAA relaunched in 2026 as an open-access online journal and publishes two issues per year (March/Spring and September/Fall). The March 2026 relaunch coincided with the launch of a new EAA website: www.Education About Asia.org. The AAS seeks an innovative and dynamic editor with a clear vision of how to continue the valuable work of the journal and improve its reach and impact. To take full advantage of EAAs online format, we seek an editor with an interest in soliciting digital media (videos, audio materials, and podcasts) for inclusion on the EAA website, and in exploring synergies with the AAS Books program. The Editor will work closely with the EAA Editorial Advisory Board, the AAS Editorial Board, the AAS Publications Manager/EAA Managing Editor, the AAS Executive Director, and other AAS staff as needed.
